Digital & Social

Making a positive first impression means everything in today’s world. The first place many encounter U-M is online. The Office of the Vice President for Communications digital and social media teams are essential to building U-M’s global image by developing and managing U-M websites and social media channels to engage and inform our audiences. We work with the campus community to develop strategic digital communications that align with the U-M brand and build the university’s reputation online.

Maintaining U-M’s Online Presence

OVPC manages the U-M gateway (umich.edu home page), and many other strategic websites that serve as front doors to U-M.

UMSocial maintains the strategic direction and development of all university-wide social accounts, as well as college, school and program presences. UMSocial also maintains the official accounts inventory, provides consultation services and training and offers best practices. The office is focused on encouraging collaboration and promoting a unified campus message. UMSocial staff members also oversee the daily content management of central social platforms and disseminate messaging that promotes university-related initiatives.

Consulting & Planning

Our digital team provides guidance on website design and content management to help U-M units maximize website effectiveness through metrics, content strategy, design and development. We also provide guidance on best practices for usability and accessibility to improve site functionality and remove barriers to information.

The social media team is available as a resource to all U-M campuses and the Health System for social media consultation, training, content collaboration and developing unified social media messaging.

Our Film Office helps filmmakers find the perfect location at U-M and make all of the necessary arrangements for a smooth production on campus.
